Carey was 5'10 in height when she became a high-end model. She was a popular model with American fashion designers Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren was very high. Her father is a renowned geologist, who was awarded Scientist of the Year back in 1979 by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Her father was a scientist who travelled around the world as part of his professional career. When she was a student at an institution called the University of Colorado, Carey began to model on the side. An agent from Ford Model Agency in New York noticed her and offered to help. In 1980, she moved to France where she briefly resided in Paris as well as Bordeaux but returned to New York in order to pursue an acting career. She appeared on Vogue and Glamour cover. Between her modelling assignments, she studied literature full time at New York University. Gradually she became interested in acting, and began studying at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. Her first acting experience was in as a character alongside Robin Williams in the 1986 film 'Club Paradise. She enjoys rock climbing, skiing, and windsurfing.
